Asus EeePC 701 4G
It would appear that I was not the only one to have problems with the EeePC701 4G when it came to installing Windows XP. With the lack of optical drive the only options were to install via USB/SD Card or to buy an external USB Optical Drive.
After looking around for a cheap simple USB CD-ROM drive it became quite clear that no one wants a CD-ROM drive anymore and all I could find on the sites were DVD-RW external drives which quite frankly I dont want nor need and I certainly cant see any reason why I should pay around £39.99 for something I will use only once.
However, as daunting as it sounds, the USB Flash drive option is alot easier than it sounds. I found rather good instructions over on sodoityourself.com - The only thing I will add to the tutorial is to make sure you download all the Windows XP drivers before hand to save you a whole lot of time. I have all the XP drivers for the 701 4G and will be hosting them on this server for download to make life even easier for you.
Make sure you use a good quality USB Flash drive for this procedure. I was using an old 1GB Sony Flash drive and it failed to install on the EeePC twice but after going out and buying a new Sandisk drive it worked first time without a hitch.
